The arris
top edge at 8.2mm from the wall
The top edge where the moulding meets the wall. A cutter that starts its sweep 2mm further out throws every curve below it out of register, so we read this edge first and hang the whole section off it.

Matching skirting: the straight answers

How do I match my old skirting board?
Take an offcut or the cut end of the board, draw tightly round the profile on paper (or on the SkirtingMatch A4 trace sheet), lay a bank card next to your line for scale and photograph it from above. SkirtingMatch reads the profile in true millimetres, matches it against every cutter in its library and mills replacement lengths in solid pine. If no cutter matches, a bespoke cutter is ground to your section in 7 days.
How can you measure a skirting profile from a photograph?
A bank card is the same size everywhere, so a card lying flat next to your traced line gives the photo a known scale. The printed A4 trace sheet does the same job with corner marks. From that scale the trace is redrawn and dimensioned in true millimetres, to ±1mm.
What does “We match any skirting board. Guaranteed.” mean?
We match any skirting board. Guaranteed. Either your profile matches a cutter in our library, or we grind a bespoke cutter for it in 7 days. If the library has your profile, it is milled to order in solid pine. If it doesn't, you post a hand-width offcut and a new cutter is ground to your exact section. That is the whole guarantee; nothing else is promised.
What if my skirting board isn't in your library?
Post a hand-width offcut. SkirtingMatch grinds a new cutter to your exact section and mills your order 7 days after the sample arrives. Bespoke runs cost £18 per metre plus a £120 cutter charge, waived on orders over 25 metres. The cutter stays on file, so later metres are a reorder.
Why does the moulded head depth matter when matching skirting?
A cutter shapes a fixed section at the top of the board, while the overall board height can vary. SkirtingMatch therefore matches profiles in absolute millimetres measured from the board's top edge, and lists each library profile by its moulded head depth, for example Ogee 33mm, Torus 32mm and Lamb's Tongue 40mm.
What are your skirting boards made from?
Solid pine, not MDF. Every length is machined from solid pine in one pass of a spindle cutter, sanded and left unfinished, ready for your own paint or finish. Lengths are supplied up to 2.4m, and orders over 2.4m arrive as multiple lengths.
How much does matched skirting cost?
Library profiles cost £18 to £36 per linear metre depending on height (95, 120, 145, 170, 195 and 220mm). A library profile at a height we don't stock costs the same per metre as the next stocked height up, with no cutter charge. A bespoke profile is £18 per metre plus a £120 cutter, waived over 25 metres. Delivery is £12, free over £150.
How long does delivery take?
Library profiles are milled to order with a lead time of 5–7 working days and tracked delivery. Bespoke profiles are milled and shipped 7 days after your offcut reaches the workshop in Harrogate. You approve a traced overlay by email before the full order is cut.
Can I post you a sample of my skirting instead of photographing it?
Yes. The sample-match service costs £9 and is credited against your order. After paying you get a postage QR code. Put a hand-width offcut (minimum 10cm) in a large-letter envelope, no thicker than 25mm and no heavier than 750g, and show the QR at any Post Office. The result comes within one working day of arrival.
Do you make matching architrave?
Yes, for the profiles marked architrave in the library (Pencil Round, Bullnose, Quirked Ogee, Ovolo and Deco Step). Matching architrave is milled at 57mm (£14/m), 70mm (£16/m) and 95mm (£18/m) in the same solid pine.
