How to recognise a Regency skirting board
Regency skirting overlaps with late Georgian work, but it tends to be deeper and more dramatic. What you'll commonly find:
- A deep hollow, a scotia or cove, in the moulded section, casting a strong shadow line.
- Crisp fillets and a bead framing the hollow.
- A deep moulded section overall: ours is the deepest in the library.
- Often found in drawing rooms and principal rooms of late-Georgian and Regency houses and terraces.

What is a scotia skirting board?
A scotia is a deep concave hollow. On a scotia skirting it sits in the moulded top, usually between fillets and a bead, and throws a strong shadow line. The SkirtingMatch Regency profile is a scotia cove with fillets and a bead, with a 44mm moulded head.
Is Regency skirting the same as Georgian?
Regency is the last part of the Georgian period, so the two overlap. Regency boards are commonly deeper and bolder, with a scotia hollow, where earlier Georgian boards favour long, shallow sweeps such as lamb's tongue.
