How to tell if yours is Deco Step
Look at a cut end, not the face: the face hides the depth of the section. Read it where the paint is thinnest.
- Straight, rectilinear steps instead of curves: three of them on ours.
- The shoulders of the steps are bevelled rather than rounded.
- The moulded section runs 30mm down from the top edge on our cutter.
- Typical of interwar flats and mansion blocks.
Names are only labels: two boards sold as “deco step” can need different cutters. The scanner compares your measured section, to ±1mm, against this cutter and every other one on the rack.
Often confused with
An ovolo has fillets too, but its main feature is a curve (20mm head), not steps.
A pencil round is a single flat face with a softened corner (3mm head).
