How to tell if yours is Pencil Round
Look at a cut end, not the face: the face hides the depth of the section. Read it where the paint is thinnest.
- The face is flat and square all the way up; only the top front corner is rounded.
- The round is small: 3mm on our cutter. You feel it with your thumb more than you see it from across the room.
- There is no bead, groove, step or hollow anywhere on the face.
- Common in houses built or refitted from the late twentieth century on.
Names are only labels: two boards sold as “pencil round” can need different cutters. The scanner compares your measured section, to ±1mm, against this cutter and every other one on the rack.
Often confused with
A bullnose rounds the whole shoulder (9mm head); a pencil round only softens the corner.
An ovolo has a small flat step above and below its curve; a pencil round has none.
