How to tell if yours is Ovolo
Look at a cut end, not the face: the face hides the depth of the section. Read it where the paint is thinnest.
- One convex quarter-round swells out and stops.
- Two small square steps (fillets) frame the curve, one above and one below.
- The moulded section runs 20mm down from the top edge on our cutter.
- It reads strongly in raking light; common in Edwardian houses.
Names are only labels: two boards sold as “ovolo” can need different cutters. The scanner compares your measured section, to ±1mm, against this cutter and every other one on the rack.
Often confused with
A bullnose rounds the top edge with no fillets (9mm head).
A torus is a fuller, deeper bead over a quirk (32mm head).
