How to tell if yours is Torus
Look at a cut end, not the face: the face hides the depth of the section. Read it where the paint is thinnest.
- A single stout, convex bead swells out at the top of the board.
- Under the bead there is a shadowed quirk (a small groove or step) before the flat face.
- The moulded section runs 32mm down from the top edge on our cutter.
- Found in many Victorian terraces; merchants often sell it on a reversible board with ogee on the other face.
Names are only labels: two boards sold as “torus” can need different cutters. The scanner compares your measured section, to ±1mm, against this cutter and every other one on the rack.
Often confused with
An ogee is an S-curve, hollow then swell (33mm head). A torus only swells out, once.
An ovolo is a quarter-round, not a full bead, and much shallower (20mm head).
