How to tell if yours is Quirked Ogee
Look at a cut end, not the face: the face hides the depth of the section. Read it where the paint is thinnest.
- The very top is set back from the face and rounded over softly.
- A long ogee (S-curve) then sweeps out to the full face of the board.
- The curve finishes in a crisp quirk: a small, sharp recess. Under old paint it can look softened.
- The moulded section runs 29.5mm down from the top edge. Ours was traced from a real Victorian board.
Names are only labels: two boards sold as “quirked ogee” can need different cutters. The scanner compares your measured section, to ±1mm, against this cutter and every other one on the rack.
Often confused with
A plain ogee has no set-back top and no finishing quirk (33mm head).
A torus is a single bead with no S-curve (32mm head).
