How to tell if yours is Regency
Look at a cut end, not the face: the face hides the depth of the section. Read it where the paint is thinnest.
- A deep hollow (a scotia cove) sits in the moulded section and casts a strong shadow line.
- Crisp fillets and a bead frame the hollow.
- It is the deepest section in our library: 44mm down from the top edge.
- Associated with late-Georgian and Regency drawing rooms.
Names are only labels: two boards sold as “regency” can need different cutters. The scanner compares your measured section, to ±1mm, against this cutter and every other one on the rack.
Often confused with
Lamb's tongue is one long convex sweep (40mm head) with no deep hollow.
An ogee is a single S-curve over a shorter section (33mm head), with no bead or fillets.
